Raise Your Hand…… Bid Your Heart……
Join other community leaders and youth oriented citizens at the Hopkins County Junior Market Sale. It’s a once-a-year event when our local 4-H and FFA youth complete one of their key projects—the raising and sale of a market animal.
These young people have invested time, talents and substantial money in the care and feeding of premium stock. At the Junior Market Sale, we can show these leaders of tomorrow that old fashion hard work and pride of accomplishment are still worth the effort. C’mon out and let ‘em know you care!
Your participation in the Hopkins County Junior Market Sale is a tribute to 260 youth of Hopkins County enrolled in market livestock projects. When you recognize and reward their dedication, you encourage the valuable lessons learned when raising an animal (responsibility, consistency, respect, creativity, persistence, etc). Join us in helping to keep 4-H, FFA and the Hopkins County Junior Market Show thriving in our community!
Let’s hear bids from individual who want to:
· Stock their freezer or food locker with some of the finest top quality meat they’ve ever tasted.
· Share their purchase with a friend.
· Get the neighborhood involved. Go whole hog, lamb, steer or goat and throw a BBQ!
Let’s hear it from service clubs and lodges:
· Throw a club BBQ.
Let’s hear bids from the business community:
· Donate the live animal to your favorite charity.
· Treat your employees to a party. Serve them the country’s finest meat with pride.
IT’S EASY!!!
You can support the sale in two ways:
1. Participate in the sale by attending and joining in the excitement of the event including the auctioneer’s chant, the ringman’s yell of a bid and the excited young person presenting his or her prize winning animal in the sale ring. If you cannot attend, you may place an order with the Sale Committee to purchase animals in your name.
2. Encourage others in your area to participate in the sale.
Here are some basic ways to buy:
1. You may purchase the animal for full bid price. You would be responsible for transporting and processing arrangements.
2. You may purchase the animal and sell it to the packer. You would pay full bid price minus the packer price. The packer would take the animal.
3. You may purchase the animal for full bid price and donate it to your favorite charity.
“BUY-LAWS” FOR BUYERS
Prospective buyers register before the auction begins. Each prospective buyer will receive a sale list showing each animal in the order of sale, owner’s name, tag number, weight and market price.
As each animal is led into the ring, the auctioneer will ask for a bid specified in dollars per head or per pound. Buyers simply raise their hand to bid. The highest bidder buys the animal, signs a sale slip, determines disposition of the animal and takes a picture with the exhibitor.
If the animal is to be processed for meat consumption by the buyer, the buyer will pay the total amount bid for the animal. If the buyer does not want the animal processed, a packer will pay the market price for the animal. The buyer will pay only the difference between market price and amount bid.
The Hopkins County Junior Market Sale will be held Saturday, February 27, 2009 starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Regional Civic Center. Ag. Workers Association will be sponsoring a stew and chili supper prior to the Sale at 5:00 p.m.
