Averages $687.68
by: Bobby McDonald

"The quality ran deep and the buyers paid a premium for local cattle," was the word from Sulphur Springs Livestock Commission Company owner, David Fowler, as he described the Wednesday, July 20th NETBIO Sale. "We had a successful sale and the market is still holding at very profitable levels for local beef cattle producers!"
Local cattleman had consigned 3144 head of feeder calves to the sale and "value-added" to their livestock by weaning them, getting them started on feed, and giving them the required vaccinations to enter the feedlot. Then, once the cattle arrived at Sulphur Springs Livestock, they were grouped into lots according to sex and size, so that buyers could buy uniform lots. "I added about $75.00 per head to my calves, by going to the trouble of meeting the NETBIO requirements," stated a very pleased seller.

"Peas in a Pod".......Once NETBIO calves arrive at Sulphur Springs Livestock, they are
grouped according to size and sex to form uniform lots for the buyer to purchase.
This was the first time that Sulphur Springs Livestock Commission Company had offered the sale "live" over the internet and personnel were very pleased with the results. "We had about 25 registered buyers, and sold 2 truck loads of feeder calves that were destined for the feedlot in Iowa," stated Kathy McGowen, technology applicator at the commission company.
"The internet feature was a great start and something that I think will become more and more popular, with each sale," stated Fowler. "Once folks learn how easy it is and just how simply they can purchase cattle from their home or office, and save the travel time, they are going to use it more and more!"

Quality lots of feeder calves, like these, are ready to move to the feedlot and begin the feeding
process, that will take them to the desired weight.
The July sale saw some 24 buyers purchasing the 3144 head, with a gross sale of $2,162,055.53. This was an average price of $687.68 per head. Volume buyer of the sale was James Powell of Terrell, Texas, an order buyer for feedlots in Lubbock, who managed to purchase 1,045 head.
The next NETBIO Sale is scheduled for September 28th and calves must be weaned by August 14th in order to meet the criteria for consignment.
