Speaker for tonight's annual MLK Day Celebration at Morning Chapel Missionary Baptist Church is Sulphur Springs native, Alva Adams Jr., who graduated from Sulphur Springs High school in 1997.

Upon graduating, Alva began his college studies at Kilgore Junior College where he earned an Associate of Arts Degree. While at Kilgore, Alva was very active on campus and was the Secretary/ Treasure of Student Government and was also nominated to “Who’s Who among Junior Colleges,” a highly regarded honors program focused on a student’s GPA, college activities, leadership roles and service to the college and community.

Alva continued his educational studies at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) where he earned a Business Administration degree with an emphasis in Management in 2002. He was active on campus and was the Vice President of UTA’s Zeta Chi chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.

Understanding the importance of higher education, Alva continued his education journey and in 2007 he earned a Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix with an emphasis in management.

Alva is putting his educational endeavors to good use. He has been employed by Chrysler Group, LLC for 11 years where he is currently the Ram Advocate Manager in the Southwest region. In this role, he manages a team of market specific Advocates spanning across six states and covering over 300 Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, and Ram Dealerships aimed at increasing Ram Truck sales and market share.

Alva currently resides in Arlington, TX with wife Angellena, son Carson and daughter Emily where he is very active in his community. He is the Education Director for the Dalworth Park Church of Christ congregation, teaches Wednesday night adult bible classes, involved with many outreach programs, and takes pride in mentoring youth.

Alva has never forgotten where he came from and holds the Sulphur Springs community in high regards. In 2007 he formed Adams Solutions, LLC a real estate holding company aimed at beautifying the Sulphur Springs community by rehabbing dilapidated properties and providing families with a great living environment. On most weekends, you will find Alva in the Sulphur Springs community with his sleeves rolled up beautifying the community one house at a time.

Tonight's celebration will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be followed by a reception, honoring those selected as recipients of the Martin Luther King, Jr. awards for 2013.
