Yantis Will Face Avery in Area Competition
After Spectacular Effort Monday Night

If you weren't in the Sulphur Springs High School Gym, on Monday night, you missed one of the most spectacular basketball games played all season. It was the Bi-District Championship play-off game between Avery and Martins Mill. The winner would advance to meet Yantis in the Area Competition, thus the gym was packed with local Yantis fans, and to add to the "mix," Avery Coach Jack Boles is the former Coach and Athletic Director at Yantis.

Monday night's game hosted in Wildcat Gym featured the Avery Bulldogs falling behind the Martins Mill Mustangs, early in the game, with a series of "cold" shots, that put them on the defensive for the remainder of the game. Martins Mill led the match-up at the end of the first period of play, 7-0.

During the second period, Avery managed to "get on the board" but still trailed at the halftime intermission, 15-7. However, no one knows what Coach Boles did during halftime, because the Bulldogs returned to open the third period with a quick 7 points to bring them within one point of the Mustangs, with less than a minute into the period, and the "heat" was on!

The second half of the game found two teams fighting for the Championship, with Avery "pouring it on" during the final period to overcome a "never die" Mustang team, that kept the pace up until the final buzzer.

The Avery Bulldogs were victorious with a 41-33 decision, and will face the Yantis Owls for the Area Championship, later in the week. Congratulations to both Avery and Martins Mill on a spectacular ballgame that was certainly worth the ticket price to see! Of course, this builds even more excitement for the match-up with Yantis!
