Hot Aire Balloons
Take Flight, Friday Morning

by: Bobby McDonald

You had to be up early to attend the balloon pilots briefing at 5:30 a.m., at
Hampton Inn, to begin a balloon flight on Friday morning.

It was "rising early" for local media, as they began the flights for the weekend of the Hopkins County Dairy Festival Hot Aire Balloon Rally, on Friday morning. The Pilots Briefing was conducted at 5:30 a.m., at Hampton Inn, and then pilots, crew, and those going up traveled to Shannon Oaks Church for the "lift-off." It was at approximately 6:45 a.m. when balloons began entering the sky, with plans to arrive at the Sulphur Springs Municipal Airport. However, once they launched a strong wind shifted them south, with them landing on the south side of Sulphur Springs. All landed safely and some great stories will be told around town today, as several took their first balloon rides (watch for an account from Cathy and Terry Bryan who went up in the Front Porch News Texas.com balloon).
