SSHS Band Wins Sweepstakes
In Region IV Competition

The SSHS Band Wins UIL Sweepstakes Award in the Region IV competition. Sweepstakes is given to bands who earn a First Division in Marching, Concert and Sight-Reading.

The Varsity Band earned "Straight Ones" in both Concert and Sight-Reading (and in Marching). Straight Ones means that all three judges in concert and all three judges in sight-reading gave the band a First Division.

The JV Band earned a First Division in concert and earned a Second Division in Sight-Reading. However, one judge gave them a one in sight-reading, so they were only a judge away from earning a One in sight reading as well.

"Sulphur Springs had, by far, the most fans and parents at the contest. One of the Sight-Reading judges commented on how great it was to see the support for the kids," stated SSHS Band Director, Charles McCauley. "Both groups gave their best performance of the year!"

UIL Sweepstakes is the highest yearly award a Texas band can get.

"This group of kids have had a great attitude since August 1. They come everyday with their 'lunchbucket" ready to go to work," expressed McCauley, as he discussed his band and their performance. "Attitude is such a huge thing for any team to be successful. Earning this award validates to the kids that a hard work ethic and a great attitude do pay off!"

Congratulations SSHS Band!!!!
