Beatlegras Concert Termed
"A Success With A Capital 'S'!"
"Vision of What Downtown Can Be
Realized, Thursday Night"
by: Bobby McDonald
When patrons began arriving in Downtown Sulphur Springs at approximately 6:00 to shop and eat at the restaurants that were open, made everyone realize what Sulphur Springs could become as a nighttime entertainment destination, on Thursday night. Then, when by 7:15 lawn chairs were unfolded across the historic brick and some 400-500 music enthusiasts were ready for a concert, Downtown Business Alliance members and planners were "ecstatic!" "This is truly great!" expressed Rita Edwards, President of the Downtown Business Alliance. "It's great to see the Downtown area full of people, having a great time!"

Joey Baker, Director of Tourism, introduced the Beatlegras Trio, and lively music echoed from the buildings and lightened the hearts of those who could remember the Beatles' hits from the 60's and 70's, as well as a younger group, who had never known the introduction of the Rock 'n Roll era.
Members of the Downtown Business Alliance were "all smiles" at the large crowd of patrons,
who attended the Beatlegras Concert, Thursday night.
"This is the kind of music I grew-up with," expressed a jubilant Beth Wisenbaker. "And, I don't know but what it is even better, the second time around. Maybe we pay more attention to the words and reflect on the times that make the music so special!"
Patrons brought their lawn chairs and enjoyed the wonderful weather, as
they reflected on youthful times on the Downtown Square in Sulphur Springs.
"We had a great crowd before the concert began," expressed Sandi Wallace, owner of Plain & Fancy Sandwich Shoppe. "And, everyone seemed so excited about returning to the Downtown Area, for entertainment."
"You've got to get a picture of the ice cream vendor," exclaimed Billie Ruth Standbridge, as she pointed toward City Manager Marc Maxwell selling ice cream!
City Manager Marc Maxwell and Tony Martin served as ice cream vendors
on The Square, Thursday night.

"I hope that tonight's successful concert will serve to let people in Hopkins County know the kinds of fun that can be enjoyed in the Downtown area of Sulphur Springs, once we get some of the improvements made and that this is just the beginning of the area 'coming alive' in the future," expressed Maxwell, as he "hawked" ice cream, from his booth.
The "warm glow" of Downtown was realized by those who attended
Thursday night's Beatlegras Concert.
The familiar hits continued, as Beatlegras gave a different "twist" to many of the Rock'n Roll hits, that were so popular during the Beatles' era. Patrons were caught "humming" along with many of them and recalling special times in classic cars, as well as favorite memories that were made on the public Sulphur Springs Square, where they sat. "I've spent many, many nights sitting on the Square, laughing and talking with friends," expressed one patron. "Of course, back when we were growing-up the Downtown Square was the place that we all congregated, and just 'hung-out' to enjoy the company of each other!"

"This can't help but remind you of those times," inserted another. "The music is the same. It's just that we've gotten a little bit older and don't move quite as fast!"
As the concert continued, in the shadows of historic Downtown Sulphur Springs, patron began to "yawn" and think about going home. However, the fun continued and patrons were reluctant to let the magic end! "This has truly been a great night of fun!" expressed one patron. "The weather has been great, the music has been fantastic, and I can't think of a better way to spend an evening in Downtown Sulphur Springs!"
The evening ended with warm hearts and wonderful night of entertainment
in Downtown Sulphur Springs!
