"Barn Burning Barn Building"
by: Ben Barnes
The 2006 Texas Political Scene is in "full swing" now that Labor Day has passed. Travel behind the scenes in the Democratic Party of Texas with a person that has had the "front row seat" since the 1960's, Ben Barnes. Elected as the youngest Speaker of the Texas House, at age 26, in 1965, Barnes has been a constant in both Texas Politics and the Texas Democratic Party. He's "rubbed shoulders" with President Lyndon Johnson, Governor John Connally, and other top political figures, while serving Texas as Lt. Governor.
Barnes even has Hopkins County connections, as the nephew of former Lamar Elementary School Teacher, Ada Emmons, and has seen the Democratic Party in all of its glory, to the fall of the party in the state of Texas. Come share his view of the party and the necessary steps that he thinks the party should take to once again gain state control.
Regardless of your political party affiliation, you're sure to enjoy this read about the politics that have shaped our state and the deal makers who were responsible. Seldom do you get the opportunity to get the inside story from someone who was there when it all happened!
A great read for those who love Texas and the politics that has shaped our great state!
