LONE STAR RISING
by
Elmer Kelton

Those of you who have read "The Time It Never Rained" know the talent of Elmer Kelton, as one of the premier Western writers. And, in Lone Star Rising, Kelton combines three books to form this trilogy about the immortal Texas Rangers.

In "The Buckskin Line," you are introduced to Rusty Shannon, the red-haired Comanche captive that is rescued and adopted by Mike Shannon, an Indian fighter and protector of the Texas Plains. See Rusty come of age and swear vengeance as he joins the Rangers during the Civil War and vows to kill the renegades that killed his adoptive father.

In "Badger Boy," the "ranging" company is disbanded and Rusty returns to his home on the Red River and discovers that the woman he loves has married someone else. Striving to overcome his personal loss and to find a route in life to pursue, Rusty's fate is decided when he is called on to rescue Andy Pickard, a young boy that is captured by the Comanches, much like Rusty had been in his earlier life.

Then, Kelton combines the adventures of both Andy and Rusty in the third installment entitled "The Way of the Coyote." Follow these two endearing Western men, as they once again join the Texas Rangers and make an attempt to rid the Texas frontier of violent outlaws, Confederate reengage raiders, hooded Ku Klux Klansmen, and the ever present Indians that roam the Plains.

Kelton is a master storyteller and has a unique way of lassoing the reader into the action and heart of the story!
