LOVE RUBY LAVENDER
by
Deborah Wiles

Welcome to Halleluia, Mississippi, population 400 "Good Friendly Folks!" See the rural Mississippi town through the eyes of nine-year old, Ruby Lavender, and her grandmotherly side-kick, Miss Dula Dapplevine. Join this unlikely duo on a rescue mission when they decide to save some old laying hens from slaughter, as local egg producer, Lucius Peterson, retires and culls his flock. You're sure to get a "whopping" laugh at the antics orchestrated by these rather obscure animal activists.

Then, follow Miss Eula as she makes a pilgrimage to Hawaii to visit her new grandbaby. Meanwhile, Ruby is left in Halleluia to keep the hens occupied by reading to them, must spend most of her day doing household chores that she hates, and is tormented by Melba Jane.

This children's book is a delightful read and portrays small town Southern life with all its humor and charm......a fast-paced account of life in the South and all the characters that decorate small towns!

Suggested for readers 9-13 years of age, but funny enough to entertain an adult!
