SHEM CREEK
by Dorothea Benton Frank

Enter the world of the South Carolina Low Country, where Ole' South values and the
warmth of friendship and community never seem to leave her natives. Linda Breland,
a Low Country native, has migrated to New Jersey, but finds herself divorced and
attempting to raise her two teenaged daughters, Gracie and Lindsey. Lindsey is ready
to leave for college and Gracie is a high schooler who tends to get into trouble
when not "kept in check" by her older sister.

Ready for a change in her life and a fresh start, Linda decides to return to her roots.
In doing so, she arrives in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, where she reunites with her
sister, Mimi, a "grand dame" from the South, but has trouble convincing Gracie that
the South is the place for her to establish roots.

Add to the mix, Brad Johnson, a former investment banker from Atlanta, Georgia, and
Linda's employer, as the owner of the Shem Creek restaurant he hires her to manage.
Brad has a story of intrigue all its own and finds himself confronted with raising his
own son, who suddenly loses his mother.

You'll become endeared to these deep characters who embrace life on Shem Creek and
celebrate the triumphs and tragedies that seem to be always entering their lives. But,
more importantly, you find a deeper appreciation for the Low Country and the value
that seem to guide the spirit of her people.
