Wreck at Lee and Broadway Streets
Cuts Power to Businesses, Wednesday

by: Bobby McDonald

Businesses along South Broadway Street experienced a power outage on Wednesday afternoon, as a multi-car accident knocked down power lines. The accident occurred at approximately 1:00 p.m., when the driver of a pickup truck was traveling down Lee Street. The auto first struck another vehicle in the parking lot of the Calvary Baptist Church, re-entered Lee Street and then veered left, striking the power supply for business on Broadway, downing the powerlines and stopping traffic on Lee and the entrances to San Remos Restaurant.

The vehicle continued across Broadway Street and struck two vehicle in the Quality Used Car Lot, where it overtuned and rested near the entrance to the building of the car lot.

Reports of minor injuries were recorded and the driver of the vehicle was assumed to have possibly suffered complications from a medical condition.

Clean-up of the accident and a restoration of power was accomplished at approximately 3:00 p.m.

"It is a wonder that injuries were not much, much more severe," reported one witness to the accident. "I can't believe no one was seriously injured, when the vehicle advanced with such speed and crossed the busy Broadway Street, before coming to a stop!"

"I was in Walmart and we couldn't even check-out!" reported one weary shopper. "It totally shut down the checking process and we had to wait for power to be restored!"
