Long Road Trip Proves
Too Much For Cats, Friday Night
by: Bobby McDonald
It was a "long road trip" for the Sulphur Springs Wildcats and their devoted fans, on Friday night, as they traveled south to Whitehouse, in what some termed "The Steam Bowl," as summertime temperatures lingered throughout the game. The Cats came out with a slow start, seeing the score leave them behind 18-0. However, they settled into action and began to focus on their game plan as they scored 22 unanswered points during the second quarter of the game. The Wildcats led at halftime 22-18 and had a momentum going that seemed unstoppable.

The Whitehouse Wildcats came back from halftime with a determination to win and a series of penalties against Sulphur Springs, along with turnovers, left the Cats without a score during the second half of the game. The final score reflected a 38-22 victory for Whitehouse.
The Wildcats' attack included 407 yards, 402 of them accumulated in the passing game. Jace Jackson had 101 of those yards in an outstanding night, as a receiver, and "Boo" Evans added his own 100 yards as a receiver, in another great performance. Quarterback Ty Rollison's 402 yards of passing, was a career high for him and one of the top performances in school history. The Wildcats only accumulated 5 net yards in the rushing game. Four were credited to Brittan Diamond, two to Rashad Hall and Rollison had a minus 1 yard.

The Wildcats had 84 yards in penalties, as opposed to 57 yards for Whitehouse. However, it seemed that those imposed on the Wildcats were at some of the most critical times.

Rollison was "picked-off" on interceptions that aided the Whitehouse Wildcats in scoring their 20 unanswered points during the second half of the game.
"The turnovers were a major factor in the game," expressed Head Coach Greg Owens. "When you're playing a good ball club like Whitehouse, you just can't give them that many turnovers and win the game. Our guys played a good game, but it was the points we gave them, that made the difference."

Josh Dunn, #9, had an outstanding game Friday night, as he dominated the team with 17 tackles and a recovered fumble.
The Wildcats will be at home, Friday night, September 14th, as they host Denison, in the Homecoming 2007 Game at Prim Stadium. Pre-Game Homecoming activities will begin at 6:40 p.m. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
