Beautiful New Clock Graces
Entrance to Hopkins County
Regional Civic Center
by: Bobby McDonald
It was a ceremony at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday afternoon, that marked months of hard work and dedication, by the 2006-07 Leadership Sulphur Springs Class. The class had chosen as their class project to install and raise funds for a a beautiful clock for the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center. "It was something that we felt was needed at the Civic Center grounds," expressed Mike Jumper, President of the Leadership Class. "Now, everyone who comes to the Stew Contest, or any other function on the Civic Center grounds can tell what time it is!"
Members of the 2006-07 Leadership SS Class were busy getting instructions on setting the clock
to "Central Time" as they dedicated the clock, Tuesday afternoon.
Every Leadership Sulphur Springs Class, as a part of the program, chooses a class project to benefit the community. Past Leadership classes have set high standards with their great projects. "We feel that our class met the challenge and continued the high standards set by those who have gone before us," expressed Jumper. "We're excited to present our class project to Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County, as the 'Leadership Clock' is a beautiful addition to the area and something that everyone can be proud of!"

project is installed at the Hopkins County Civic Center grounds, Tuesday afternoon.
The beautiful pedestal clock was customized especially for Sulphur Springs, by the Leadership Class. The Leadership Class solicited local businesses that had previously sponsored past Leadership participants and want to thank those who gave their generous support for the project. The class raised more than $12,000.00 needed to purchase the clock. Additional funds were used to purchase a plaque that acknowledges the underwriters of the project and will be placed at the base of the installation.

"The goal was to install the Leadership Clock in time for the Fall Festival participants to enjoy. And, we made it!" exclaimed Jumper. "We believe the Leadership Clock will become an asset not only to the Civic Center, but the Chamber of Commerce, the Dairy Museum, and the High School, as well as to the entire community who enjoy events in and around the Civic Center."
2006-07 Leadership Sulphur Springs Class Members present their class project, the beautiful pedestal clock,
to County Judge Cletis Millasp, in ceremonies, Tuesday afternoon, "just in time" for the Hopkins County
Fall Festival World Champion Stew Contest.
"We would especially like to thank Charles Westbrook, of Westbrook Concrete, for helping with the concrete base for the the clock, the Civic Center Maintenance team for the electrical wiring, Bobby Bankston, Memorial Monuments, and all the generous underwriters, who helped us reach the goal," expressed members of the class.
The Tuesday afternoon ceremony found class members admiring the new clock and striving to get the clock set on our Central Time, as it was programmed for Eastern Time. Class members assured everyone that they would have it on "Our Time," by the Stew Contest and other Fall Festival events!
There were twenty-four members of the 2006-07 Leadership Class, and there will be the next class forming for the 2008-09 Class. If you are interested in participating in Leadership Sulphur Springs, contact the Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce or Lynda Hager, at Guaranty Bond Bank.
