Mark your calendars NOW for the “Greatest Show on Earth” honoring the “Greatest County on Earth”  The Chamber of Commerce will host the 86th Annual Chamber of Commerce Banquet on Thursday, February 9th at 6:30 pm at the Civic Center.  The theme this year will be a circus theme so everyone can dress as though they were attending a circus.  And of course, as you can imagine…you never know what you will see Under the Big Top.  Tickets are available now at the Chamber.

Have you honored the important Veteran in your family?  If not, the deadline is March 1, 2012

Work on the downtown Square is speeding up, and demolition of the fountain and elevated concrete stage just south of the Courthouse has cleared the way for construction to begin on the Hopkins County Veterans Memorial with an expected completion and dedication date of July 4, 2012. The impressive memorial design will serve as another jewel in the crown of our downtown area. The addition of the memorial, along with the other major improvements being made, will enhance the value of an already historic and cultural area, attracting visitors from both near and far.

Hopkins County's veterans will be genuinely and permanently honored in a classic and beautiful way, and more people from outside our area will visit, bringing with them dollars to be spent with local merchants.

You may bring your completed application to CNB in care of Sam Johnson or to Pam Elliot at 220 Connally Street.  All names that are sponsored and submitted by March 1st will be placed on the wall in the first engraving.  It is very important that everyone visit www.hcvm.org to check to see if their loved one is listed and also that all of the information is correct.  If you don’t have a computer, you may call either Ruth Davis at 903-885-4260, Clayton McGraw at 903-885-1551, Robert Carpenter at 903-885-2410 or Leesa Toliver 903-885-8965 and they will help you.  Also, they would like to encourage everyone to “like their Facebook page as a way to keep up with the progress on the memorial.  www.facebook.com/pages/Hopkins-County-Veterans-Memorial.

If you want to honor a veteran who has no direct connection to Hopkins County, or just to show your support and appreciation, consider buying a customized brick "paver" for the walkway for $300. You determine what goes on the paver, the committee can provide a certificate suitable for framing to give the honoree, and the funds raised help build the memorial.
