Stock Horse of Texas Clinic set for July 16-17 at the Hopkins County Civic Center
This is a 4H benefit and all funds raised at the event support local 4H kids and projects. Last year there were more than 60 entries in the clinic on Friday and over 110 horses and over 400 overall entries in the competition on Saturday.
The economics department at TAMU-Commerce estimated that the show last year had an overall economic impact of $135,000 and included 102 hotel room rentals, 235 meals served in restaurants and $18,000 in spending that was separate from what was spent at the event itself.
The kids made over $6000 in profit from last year’s show, which has allowed them to pay for several projects that may not have been possible otherwise.
Since its inception in the mid 90’s , the Stock Horse of Texas (SHOT), an affiliate of the American Stock Horse Assn, has been conducting events that have both an educational clinic and a competition. The clinic is designed to help the riders learn to train their own horse in the four events of reining, stock horse pleasure, working cow horse, and trail. As the riders gain in experience and skill, they can compete against their peers in any of several competitive divisions. The divisions are set up so that each rider is matched against riders of approximately equal skill. Both the clinics and competitions are casual, friendly affairs that promote learning and enjoyment over an attitude of win-at-any-cost.
