Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civic War Traveling Exhibition- October 10th-November 17th
The Sulphur Springs Public Library is pleased to announce the opening of a new exhibition, “Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War” October 10th through November 17th. The traveling exhibit explores Lincoln’s struggle to resolve the basic questions that divided Americans at the most perilous moment in the nation’s history: Was the United States truly one nation, or was it a confederacy of sovereign and separate states? In a national crisis, would civil liberties be secure? President Lincoln used the Constitution to confront the secession of Southern states, slavery and wartime civil liberties. Lincoln’s decisions about these crises of war reinvented the Constitution and the promise of American life. This exhibition develops a more complete understanding of Abraham Lincoln as President and the Civil War as the nation’s gravest constitutional crisis. The traveling exhibition is made possible by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities: great ideas brought to life.
The library would like to invite you to the grand opening of the exhibition on Thursday, October 11th at 6:00pm. They are very pleased to announce a special presentation of “Lincoln in the Public Mind: History, memory and the Icon.” Given by guest speaker: Dr. Jessica Brannon-Wranosky, Asst. Professor, Texas A&M University-Commerce. You may RSVP for the event to sulphurspringslibrary@gmail.com or call 903-885-4926.
