While many of their husbands were raising funds for the Ducks Unlimited, the women in Sulphur Springs were gathered at the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church, as they enjoyed dinner and awarded their quarterly funds to a deserving local charitable organization. It was the quarterly meeting of Chicks for Charity, on Thursday night.

Three organizations were drawn from the nominees and nominators addressed the group, extolling the many charitable accomplishments of each organization, and then the group voted to award this quarter's funds to one of the organizations. This quarter's selection was Hearts of Hope Pregnancy Center. The group offers pregnancy counseling to teenagers who find themselves in trouble and many have no other place to turn. Counseling for both the mother and father of the baby are offered and the Christian based outreach attempts to help the teens make educated decisions about their impending pregnancy, as well as encouraging positive health options for both the teen and her baby.

The organization is currently serving nine teens in the area and offers positive encouragement to them, as they make decisions on the choices that they have in either electing to keep and raise their child or offer the child for adoption, the group was told.

Mandy Kennedy read a thank you note that had been received from the local Shadow Ranch, who was the recipient of last quarter's funds, telling the group what an impact their donation had made in the lives of the children that are serviced by the group. "Your funds helped us to construct walls on the north and west sides of the riding arena, so that children could ride in comfort during inclement and cold weather," stated the note. "The walls were completed just before our cold weather came and you helped us to continue to serve our clients with theraputic riding!"
