Chicks for Charity, Meet Thursday Night

Thanksgiving was the theme of Thursday night's Chicks for Charity meeting, hosted in the Fellowship Hall of First United Methodist Church, as the organization celebrated their one-year anniversary. Decorations and the meal were provided with the theme of the season and each member reflected on the many, many blessings that they enjoy in Hopkins County.

In opening remarks, Mandy Kennedy called the meeting to order and announced that the organization had contributed $19,700.00 to the local community, in the past twelve months, with four groups being the benefactor of the charitable contributions. "As we begin our second year, tonight, I want each of us to reflect on how truly blessed we are, and how each of us can make a difference in this community," expressed Kennedy. "Now, as we begin to make our selections tonight, let each of us focus on an organization that is most deserving and worthy of a 'hand up' in our community!"

Nominations were submitted and three local organizations were drawn from the submissions. The three organizations were explained in detail by those nominating them and then a vote was taken for this quarter's beneficiary. After the vote, it was Shadow Ranch, a local organization that helps handicapped individuals become mobile, through horseback riding therapy, that was the group to be awarded this quarter's collection.

Congratulations, Shadow Ranch!!!
