Children's Summer Theater Production
to Open Thursday Night

by: Bobby McDonald

It's representative of hours and hours of work and rehearsals and night after night of constructing staging, but on Thursday night, the Main Street Theater will be transformed into a castle and forest, as the opening night arrives for the youth who have participated in this summer's Children's Theater Workshop. Lily Baber Coyle's The Princess and The Pee, is the selection for this year's production and youth from all across Hopkins County have spent hours of memorization and practice, to bring the performance to you the audience. Performances are scheduled at 7:30 p.m., on July 15-17th and 22-23, and a July 24th 2:00 p.m. matinee performance is planned.

For reservations, please call (903)885-0107 or secure your seating at www.mainsttheater.com.

The production features some twenty-plus youth actors, as they fill the roles of kings, queens, princesses, suitors, and the court, and evolves around the castle home of a youthful princess, who continues to be plagued with the problem of "wetting the bed." Charged with keeping the secret and making certain that she sleeps on a dry mattress involves a comedy of "ladies in waiting."

Then, it comes time to choose a suitor for the young princess, and a trio of young men come to the calling. They're given the challenge of bringing back suitable gifts from the perilous forest, to win her favor and hand in marriage. However, it is the lowly maid-servant, indentured for life, that "saves the day" and becomes the heroine of the castle, as she reflects on her heritage and accepts the challenges of life!

Make plans to schedule one of the performances for a night of local entertainment and to support these youth, as they cultivate an interest in theater and performing for the public!

Congratulations to all who have worked so hard and managed to produce a difficult piece of work!
