League Street
Church of Christ
Takes Mission Team
To Mexico
by: Bobby McDonald

The pre-dawn hours on Saturday morning found members of the League
Street Church of Christ loading luggage and getting ready to leave for a
Mexico mission trip.
A host of well-wishers and fellow church members gathered at League Street Church of Christ to "send-off" twenty-two members in the pre-dawn hours, Saturday morning, June 25th. Eleven adults and eleven members of the youth group left by vans for El Paso and then another six hours to Casa de la Esperanza - "House of Hope Children's Home," in Chihuahua, Mexico.
Members will spend a week painting houses in the tiny village, each morning. Then, during the afternoon hours they will conduct a Vacation Bible School Program. Three members of the group will be aiding local veterinarian, Hank Hayes, D.V.M., as he treats and vaccinates the animals in the nearby villages.
A "mountain" of luggage.....Chris Shelby, Youth Minister at League Street CoC, right, tries to make the most
of room in the church owned trailer, in an attempt to get everyone's luggage loaded, before the long trip to
Mexico. "With 22 people going to be away from home for 8 days and supplies, it takes some arranging,"
denoted Shelby.

Jill Shelby, center, makes certain that all participants going to Mexico have their credentials. She made one
last check with Brent and Emily Shutt, before boarding the bus and making the long trip from Sulphur Springs
to El Paso. The group would spend all day Saturday on the road.

Many church members at League Street got up in the pre-dawn hours and came to the church to send the
group going to Mexico off with their blessings. The group was lead in prayer for a successful endeavor and
outreach.
"We're hoping to spread the gospel in this region of Mexico and do what we can to improve the living conditions of both the people and the livestock that sustains them," denoted Chris Shelby, as he was trying to encourage everyone to get loaded for the long trip.
The group left Sulphur Springs at 6:30 a.m. Saturday and will return to Sulphur Springs on Sunday, July 3rd.
"And those riding in Van #1 were......"....this group of League Street Church of Christ members were just
part of those participating in a mission trip to Mexico. As the boarded the vans on Saturday, the sun was
coming up in Sulphur Springs and would be their constant companion on the road to El Paso, and another
six hours to their destination.
