Seymore Church of Christ, located 9 miles south of Sulphur Springs, on Highway 154, and
five miles north of Yantis.

It's certainly not the most impressive church building in Hopkins County, and it hardly would be considered a large congregation by "trendy" mega-church standards, of today. However, the little Seymore Church of Christ, located on Highway 154, nine miles south of Sulphur Springs and five miles north of Yantis, can boast a faithful following that can trace their roots back over 75 years.

No one knows for sure, exactly when the original beginning of the church was formed. But, current members can trace their family attendance to at least 75 years ago, when the congregation was located in the Grubbs Community, down near the Wood County line. Families in the Seymore Community made the twice weekly three mile trek to worship in the little building to the south. However, as fate would have it, the numbers of the congregation dwindled, as families became more mobile, and children of the original members moved away from the community during the WWII Era. It was in the early 1940's that the Grubbs Community Church of Christ made the decision to move their church building to the Seymore Community location, as most of the members lived in that proximity. The old building was moved, and then it was decided that a new building must be constructed to accommodate the church membership.

Construction was begun, as funds could be raised, and used lumber, as well as some "left-over" windows from a Paris, Texas, army barracks, were utilized in the construction. Construction was completed by the men in the congregation.

Some of the early families that attended church in the Grubbs community and followed the church building to the Seymore Community location, had names such as Petross, Sartin, Bible, Douglas, Harper, Wyatt, and Davis. Today, many of the members can trace their lineage to these "founding families."

In Paul's letter to his "son in the faith," Timothy, he writes:

"When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which
dwelt first in thy grandmother, Lois, and thy mother, Eunice, and that
I am persuaded that is in thee also."
......................................II Timothy 1:5....KJV...........

Likewise, one of the Seymore Church of Christ ministers, twenty-three year old Adam Teer, can trace his faith to the training to his grandmother, Mary Attlesey, and mother, Laura Attlesey Teer. Adam can even relate that his maternal great-grandparents, Jim and Virgie Sartin, were among that group of people that followed the Seymore Church of Christ from the Grubb community.

Twenty-three year old minister, Adam Teer, can trace his faith back four generations in the
Seymore Church of Christ, located on Highway 154.

Adam Teer has attended church at Seymore Church of Christ, all of his life, and began his preaching assignments, by giving spiritual talks before the group of saints, almost as far back as he can remember. With age the "talks" required more and more scripture and, before anyone knew it, Adam was a gifted speaker.

A graduate of Sulphur Springs High School, upon graduation, Adam enrolled in Texas A&M University-Commerce. Now, a junior student at the university, majoring in Speech Communications, Adam was a "natural" to accept the duties of preparing a Biblical lesson for the Seymore Church of Christ, "Glimpses of Truth," radio program, featured on Station KSST 1230 AM, every Sunday morning, at 8:30 a.m. Brother Bob Phillips, of the congregation, had conducted the radio program since the 1980's, but due to failing health moved to Ft. Worth, leaving the vacancy.

Adam Teer prepares the text for the program each week and does the accompanying Bible study necessary to complete the task, then, pre-records the lessons, so that they are available at KSST, well in advance. Additionally, Adam can be found preaching in the pulpit, on a rotational basis, at Seymore Church of Christ. His two younger brothers, Evan and Weston Teer, and other young men of the congregation can also be found fulfilling these duties, when needed.

"With a strong conviction of faith, and such a family heritage in this little church, I felt it was only natural to use my talents, where they were needed," denotes Adam Teer. "God expects us to use the talents that he gives us, and this is just one of mine!"

Adam Teer recording his radio broadcast for the "Glimpses of Truth," aired on Radio
Station KSST, each Sunday morning, at 8:30 a.m.

"The Seymore Church of Christ may not be housed in the fanciest building and the approximately 30-35 members that attend regularly each week, may not be the largest audience, but they are a testimony to an enduring faith and service to God, here in this place," states Teer. "And, Our Lord promises that where two or three are gathered together in His name, He will be in their midst. God is with us each time we meet!"
