A Progress Update on Civic Center
Improvements
by: Bobby McDonald
Workers and staff at the Hopkins County Civic Center have been busy, extremely busy, while most of us were enjoying the holidays, as they work "feverishly" to complete the improvements to the center for the Annual Lights of Life Gala, that is scheduled for January 26th. "We've had very, very little down time during the holidays and lots of extra hours and coming in at night, to make certain that the project is on schedule," revealed Pansy Bell, Civic Center Director. "And, I'm happy to report that Charles Helm is saying we are a little bit AHEAD of schedule on the project!"
Bell took me on a tour and gave me a "sneak peek" at what some of the areas will look like, when the project is unveiled on January 26th! "It's going to truly be beautiful!" exclaimed Bell, as she turned on the lights in the newly refurbished kitchen area of the center and revealed the beautiful counters and new painting. "We're going to be painting most of the exhibit hall over the weekend, so that is why we're working in that area getting things ready, today!"
"And, the bathrooms are nearing completion, with the new tile and the granite counter tops," revealed an excited Bell, as she revealed what they will look like!

Wallpapering is completed in both foyer areas and tile flooring is being laid in those areas, as the work on them are being completed.
Carpeting and other flooring will be completed next week, once the paint dries and is completed in the main exhibit hall, according to Bell, and then the "check lists" will be completed to meet the January 26th deadline!

"Naturally, I wish it would have been completed yesterday, but things are going smoothly and things are certainly looking good and beautiful!" expressed Bell. "I can't wait for everyone to see the finished project!"
