"A Classic Ride"
2nd Annual Classic Car Show
Brings Crowd to Square, Saturday
by: Bobby McDonald
It was vintage automobiles of almost every description that began arriving on the Downtown Square, Saturday morning, for the 2nd Annual Classic Car Show, sponsored by the Downtown Business Alliance. "We have almost seventy vehicles entered and they represent a variety of historic areas," exclaimed a jubilant Rita Edwards, President of the Downtown Business Alliance and organizer of the event. "We're just delighted with the number of car entries and the crowd that has come out to see them!"
Classic cars weren't the only things on display at Saturday's Classic Car Show. A display of
oil company memorabilia was available at Bright Star Antique Mall.

Patrons were "reliving" the days of their youth, as they went from automobile to automobile and saw the different features. Comments like "I remember my boyfriend having one of these!" and "I wish I had the car like this, that I drove in high school," were common statements being made, all around the Square.

Duane Stailey and his Borderline Band provided entertainment with music live from the Downtown Stage.
City Inspector Johnny Vance and City Manager Marc Maxwell sold hot dogs from a cart and drinks and t-shirts were sold by the Downtown Business Alliance.
"This is great," expressed County Commissioner Beth Wisenbaker, as she was conducting tours of the historic Hopkins County Courthouse. "It's great to see the Downtown full on a Saturday, reminiscent of days of old, when everyone came to do their business on Saturdays!"

This is just one of several events that the Downtown Business Alliance has planned for the Downtown area, so look for further events and entertainment venues in the Downtown Sulphur Springs Area.
