Cumby Trojan, Colton Speights
Earns Spot on Under Armor Baseball Team

From Coach Scott Mabe

Colton Speights attended the Under Armour tryouts on Tuesday, July 17th in Carrollton, where he was evaluated by college coaches and former MLB players and coaches. He went there mainly to be seen by college coaches, in hopes of recruitment opportunities. He was nominated by Coach Scott Mabe for these tryouts and was 1 out of 30 in this region that was invited to attend. And the ONLY player that was from a school under 5A.

On Wednesday evening, he received a call telling him that he was selected to play on the Under Armour National Baseball Team, as a catcher. Because of the fact that Colton also plays football, they asked him if he could play during the Christmas break in either Bradenton, Fl. or Mesa, Az. He chose Bradenton.

He will be at the Pittsburgh Pirates Training Camp and will be participating in the Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament. This also makes him eligible for the Pirate City World Series. This is huge opportunity for him to further his baseball career and hopefully be recruited by a great college, not to mention how it will better him as a player. At the camp/ tournament, he will be trained like a professional player by pro scouts, former pro players and top college coaches.

Colton has a large financial obligation ($3999) in order to cover airfare, local transportation, hotel, food, training, coaching, Under Armour uniform, registration, insurance, personal instruction and miscellaneous cost, to attend the camp.

Those wishing to help him make the trip can send checks or money orders made out to Baseball Factory and can be mailed to him at: Colton Speights, 2296 FM 275 N., Cumby, TX 75433 or you can have them email him for the information @ elmsc5@yahoo.com.

Colton, son of Eddie & Laurie Speights, is a senior this year at Cumby High School, where he has held the title of All-District Catcher, Baseball MVP and received the Fighting Heart award. Colton is also a All-District Running Back for the Varsity Football Team and was named in Dave Campbell's 2012 Texas Football as Preseason Offensive MVP and Stat leader - Rusher.

Congratulations, Colton!!!
