     2010 FALL FESTIVAL COVER GIRL CONTEST

    ATTRACTS EIGHT CONTESTANTS

The Fall Festival Cover Girl contest has 8 contestants this year. The Cover Girl activities will begin on Wednesday, September 8th, with the annual Cover Girl Dinner at Plain and Fancy. This dinner is for the contestants, their mothers and the media. They will participate in the parade at 10 am on Saturday, September 11th, with each girl on an individual float. The float must depict the eight events the girls will compete in for the title. On Tuesday, September 14th, the first night of Cover Girl competitions will begin at 6pm in the Civic Center arena. The girls will compete in goat tying, roping a steer head, calf scramble and driving a tractor through an obstacle course. On the second night of competition, Thursday, September 16th, at 6pm in the Civic Center arena, the girls will compete in bottle feeding a calf, milking a cow, saddling and mounting a horse and cutting up a chicken.

 

The Cover Girl contestants will be introduced at the Star Country presents Catfish and Country dinner and concert. This is the first year the Fall Festival will have a Catfish Fry followed by an outdoor concert. There will be 3 performers for the outdoor concert: Whiskey Road, Jamie Richards and Deryl Dodd. A $10 ticket will cover both events. The Cover Girl winners of the parade and window displays, Miss Congeniality, ticket sales and the title of the new 2010-2011 Cover Girl winner will be announced during intermission at the concert. The winner will receive a $750 scholarship, a $100 Visa gift card and a $50 Savings Bond. First runner-up will receive a $500 scholarship, a $75 Visa gift card and a $50 Savings Bond. Second runner-up will receive a $50 Visa gift card and a $50 Savings Bond.

 

The reigning 2009-2010 Cover Girl, Ashley Wilburn, is the daughter of John Wilburn and Gina Gainer of Sulphur Springs. Her sisters are Harley and Amber and she has a brother, Heston. She is a Senior at SSHS. She also participates in Key Club, Spanish Club, Chess Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and is a member of the Student Council.

After graduation she plans to attend Baylor University and study pre-med. She eventually wants to have her own Pediatrics practice.

 

 

#1 Tori Cotton, a Junior at SSHS, is the daughter of Tony and Diana Cotton. She plays golf, and is involved in Key Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Tori participate in youth activities at various churches and is a yearly contestant in the ice cream Freeze Off.

After graduation she plans to attend college and possibly pursue a career in aviation, which would allow her to travel and see many places of the world.

Tori’s window display is at Brumley’s Uniforms on the west side of the square.

 

 

 

#2 Katie Stewart, a Junior at SSHS, is the daughter of Danny and Caroline Stewart. She plays varsity softball and participates in the Key Club and Spanish Club. She attends First Baptist Church. She works for Stewart & O’Neal Carpentry. Katie plans to attend a University after graduation from High School.

Katie’s window display is Texas Car Title and Payday Loans in the Spring Village Shopping Center.

 

 

 

 

 

#3 Raven Potts is a Junior at North Hopkins. She is the daughter of Kelly and Nancy Potts. She plays softball and is a member of the  National Beta Club. She works at Dairy Queen. Raven plans to go to college.

Raven’s window display is at the Genealogical Society office on Main St.

 

 

 

#4 Micah Stalcup is a Junior at SSHS. She is the daughter of Lee and Teresa Stalcup. She participates in 4-H and FFA. After high school she plans to major in Veterinary medicine and minor in Zoology.

Micah’s window display is at Belle Amie Day Spa.

 

 

#5 Alex Darden is a Junior at SSHS. She is the daughter of Autry and Dida Darden.  She plays varsity softball and coaches in a Hopkins County girls softball league. She plans to become a careflight paramedic after she graduates.

Alex’s window display is at Walkers Hardwood Flooring on Main St.

 

 

#6 Erica Iannone is a Junior at Como-Pickton. She is the daughter of Bill and Michelle Iannone. She is a member and officer in the FFA, participates in choir, youth groups and volunteer work. She also babysits. She plans to go to college and become an Ag teacher.

Erica’s window display is at The Vicker’s Place in the Spring Village Shopping Center.

 

 

 

 

 

#7 Kelley Rumsey is a Junior at North Hopkins. She is the daughter of Scott Rumsey and Debbie Brice. She participates in cross country, volleyball, basketball and softball. She is a member of the National Beta Club and is a strong member of her youth group at Peerless Baptist Church. After high school she plans to attend Texas A&M University - Commerce.

Kelley’s window display is at Belle Ami Day Spa on the west side of the square.

 

 

 

#8 Arianna Leigh-Manuell is a Junior at Como-Pickton. She is the daughter of Tanja Foster and Charles Leigh-Manuell. She plays volleyball and is involved in church activities. She plans to attend Texas A&M University – College Station and study Veterinary medicine.

Arianna’s window display is at LouVineys Winery and Restaurant on Main St.

 

The Cover Girl contest is sponsored by Pogue Cattle Company, Northeast Texas Farmers Co-Op and Broadway Veterinary Hospital. The Cover Girl coordinator is Tracy Dennis.
