ATTRACTS SIX CONTESTANTS

The Fall Festival Cover Girl contest has 6 contestants this year. The Cover Girl activities will begin on Wednesday, September 5th, with the annual Cover Girl Dinner at Plain and Fancy. This dinner is for the contestants, their mothers and the media. Each contestant has to decorate a business window with items depicting all of the activities and events that will be taking place during the Fall Festival. The windows will be available to view after Wednesday, September 5th.

 

The contestants will participate in the parade at 10 am on Saturday, September 8th, with each girl on an individual float. The float must depict the five events the girls will compete in for the title.

The Fall Festival is now a four day event and there will be one night of competition, Thursday, September 13th, at 6pm in the Civic Center arena. The girls will compete in milking a cow, saddling and mounting a horse, cutting up a chicken, calf scramble, and driving a tractor through an obstacle course.

 

The Cover Girl contestants will be introduced at the World Senior Professional Bull Riding event on Saturday, September 15th. Winners of the parade and window displays, Miss Congeniality, ticket sales and the title of the new 2012-2013 Cover Girl winner will be announced during the intermission. The winner will receive a $1000 scholarship and a $100 Visa gift card. First runner-up will receive a $750 scholarship and a $75 Visa gift card. Second runner-up will receive a $500 scholarship and a $50 Visa gift card. Flowers for the winners are furnished and sponsored by April Showers II.

 

The reigning 2011-2012 Cover Girl, Emily Petty,is a Senior at SSHS. She is the daughter of Mike and Kara Petty. Emily is a Key Club Officer, Student Council Secretary, a member of the Thespian Society and in the fall will be a member of the theater production. She worked at Nor-Tex Tractor this summer and when school starts she will work as a student secretary at SSMS through the work program. She likes to spend time with her family at the lake and to socialize with her friends. After graduation, Emily plans to attend Texas Tech University to Major in Chemistry with a Pre-Pharmacy plan and Minor in Spanish. She will then continue her education to obtain her Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the Pharmacy School at Texas Tech. She would eventually like to own a chain of pharmacies. Emily has attended many ribbon cuttings, Business After Hours mixers and parades as this past year’s Cover Girl.

 

 

 

 

 

Kaitlyn Maddox

 

#1-Kaitlin Maddox is a Junior at SSHS and is the daughter of Butch and Toni Maddox. Kaitlin is a member of the high school youth group at First Baptist Church, a two year letterman in Varsity Soccer, the Treasurer of the FFA Chapter, participates in the NETLA Jr. Livestock Show, and is a volunteer at Hopkins County Vet Clinic, pursuing her permit to be a certified vet assistant. After high school she plans to attend Texas A&M-College Station to pursue an undergraduate degree in Animal Science and a Doctoral Degree in Veterinary Medicine. Kaitlin’s window display will be at Fusion Salon on Main St.

 

 

Caitlyn Malone

 

 

#2-Caitlyn Malone, a Junior at SSHS, is the daughter of Paul and Denine Malone. Caitlyn is a cheerleader for the Wildcats and is very involved with many high school activities. After she graduates from high school, she plans to attend college and become a Speech Pathologist. Caitlyn’s window is at the Pocket Shoppe on Main St.

 

 

Chelsey Crouch

 

 

#3-Chelsey Crouch is a Junior at North Hopkins ISD and is the daughter of Richard and Sandy Crouch. Chelsey plays Varsity Basketball and Softball and is involved with FFA, FCA, Talent Search, Student Council and shows steers in the Market Show in Sulphur Springs. She attends the Peerless Baptist Church and is part of the Youth Department. After graduating, she plans to go to college to become a Physical Therapist. Chelsey’s window display will be at the Genealogical Society Office on Main St.

 

 

 

 


Harley Wilburn

 

 

#4- Harley Wilburn,a Junior at SSHS, is the daughter of John and Lesa Wilburn. Harley is a Wildcat Cheerleader and is involved in FFA, Health Science Technology, Student Council and Key Club.

After high school, she plans to attend Texas A&M University or Texas Tech University, for a degree in the medical field. Harley’s window is located at Brumley’s Uniforms on the west side of the square.

 

 


Katelyn McDonald

 

#5- Katelyn McDonald is a Junior at Sulphur Bluff ISD and is the daughter of Raymond and Margaret McDonald. Katelyn is involved in FCCLA and BETA. She plays Volleyball, Basketball and Softball. She wants to pursue a career in Sports Medicine. Katelyn’s window display will be at the Health Food Store located in the Spring Village Shopping Center.

 

 

Kelsey Buchanan

 

#6-Kelsey Buchanan, a Junior at North Hopkins ISD, is the daughter of Kevin and Kristy Buchanan. She plays Varsity Basketball, Volleyball and Track. She is a member of the FFA, FCA, UIL, and BETA Club. After high school, Kelsey plans to become a Pediatric Nurse or X-Ray Technition. Kelsey’s window display will be at the Vickers Place located in the Spring Village Shopping Center.

 

The Cover Girl contest is sponsored by Holt Agribusiness, Pogue Cattle Company, Northeast Texas Farmers Co-Op and Broadway Veterinary Hospital. The Cover Girl coordinator is Tracy Dennis.
