2007 Cover Girls Begin Competition
Tuesday Night

by: Bobby McDonald

Tuesday night found the seven contestants for this year's Cover Girl crown competing in the first of a variety of events. They began the night with the goat tying competition, where each was required to run across the line, travel down the rope, throw the goat, and tie it with a "piggin' string." The event was a timed event, with the winner accumulating the most points in the event for the fastest time.

The 2007 Cover Girl contestants joined Cover Girl Helena Wall as they get ready to tie goats,
on Tuesday night, in the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center.

Showing 'em how it's done.......Cover Girl Helena Wall demonstrates how
to tie a goat, for the 2007 contestants, before they began their contest!

Cover Girl contestant Dionna Ugalde concentrates on tying her goat, during Tuesday
night's competition.

Cover Girl contestant Ariel Darden seems to be "begging" her goat to stay tied, in
Tuesday night's competition!

It wasn't long before the next event unfolded and Cover Girl hopefuls were required to participate in the Pig Scramble. "These pigs stink," was uttered by more than one of the contestants, as they strove to retrieve a ribbon from the pig!

Speedy Gonzalez?.......No, it's Cover Girl Contestant Sommer Gregory chasing her pig!!!

However, the Calf Scramble proved to be more of a challenge, because the arena increased in size and the calves could move faster, it seemed, than the pigs. The Calf Scramble was hosted in the larger arena of Civic Center and girls were required to get a ribbon off the calf. Chesley McGlammery got kicked, as she attempted to get her ribbon, "but I'm tough," she reiterated, after crossing the line!

Cover Girl contestant Shelby Blezinger seems elated to have gotten
her ribbon from her calf, in the Calf Scramble portion of Tuesday
night's competition!

And, if folks thought that the Pig and Calf Scramble and Goat Tying were "lively," they hadn't seen this year's Cover Girls drive a tractor! Some of them managed to complete the course, while others "got out of the lines, just a little bit," as they attempted to go throught the prescribed course. Many of them had problems shifting gears, and a few forgot to set the parking break. "Don't expect me to be taking-up tractor driving as an occupation," one contestant proclaimed, as she exited the tractor seat. "There has to be easier things to do in  life!"

"Which gear am I suppose to go backwards in?" seems to be the question on Cover Girl contestant
Chesley McGlammery, as she enters the Tractor Driving Contest, Tuesday night.

"Now, let's see, where is reverse on this tractor?" seems to be Cover Girl contestant Zabrina
Wilhite's dilemma, in Tuesday night's competition.

Cover Girl contestant Kayla Williams concentrates on backing the tractor through the course!

Cover Girl Helena Wall was available to "give advice" and to demonstrate how to complete the activities. "If I remember right, I don't think Helena won the tractor driving segment of last year's contest," one by-stander proclaimed. "And, it really doesn't look like she has practiced much this year, either!"

Cover Girl contestants will continue their competition on Thursday night, when they will be milking a cow, cutting-up a chicken, saddling a horse, and other related activities. Come-out and support them as they try to accumulate the most points and serve as next year's Cover Girl!
