There was a reason to celebrate at Como-Pickton High School, on Friday night. The Eagles hosted and defeated the Blue Ridge Tigers in a game where they dominated the field and increased their pre-district record to 3-2, as they begin district play next week, at Hawkins.

It was on their first possession of the ball that the Eagles executed an intense drive, ending with an impressive score by James Carter and an extra-point by Noe Tellez, to lead the match-up, 7-0. They maintained the lead throughout the first quarter of play.

However, the Tigers came back with a drive early in the second quater that netted them a touchdown, but the PAT wasn't good and the Eagles still maintained their lead.

The Eagles executed another nice drive, but were stopped short of a touchdown and opted to kick a field goal, when Tellez booted the ball over the goalpost and increased the score to 10-6, for a score that held for the first half of play.

The Eagle Band and the Blue Ridge Bands performed an impressive half-time show and gave Coach Paul Tullis the opportunity to remind this young Eagle team that they were capable of winning the match-up, if they "stuck to the fundamentals of the game" and "gave attention to the details."

The Eagles came back with an impressive second half, where they scored twenty points and managed to overpower the Blue Ridge Tigers.

James Carter, one of the leading ball carriers for the Eagles, was sidelined, with his foot in a bucket of ice and the Eagles called on running backs Spencer Boyd and Mitch Lowe, who delivered for them, during the second half.

It was a miraculous catch by receiver Keith Anderson, that put the Eagles ahead 16-6, in the Friday night match-up. Anderson jumped into the air, in the end zone and grabbed the ball from the defending Tiger, to gain six points for the Eagles, in what even teammates feared was an interception. Then, Tellez booted the ball across the bars for the PAT and the Eagles led 17-6.

The Tiger's answered back when a fumble by the Eagles, gave them six easy points. The PAT was no good.

Then, during the final minutes of the third quarter, Tellez found Lowe on a series of carries that allowed him to score from ten yards out and increase the Eagle lead to 23-12.

In the final scoring drive for the Eagles, Tellez connected with junior Spencer Boyd and he danced across the goal line, to add six more points to the impressive score. An extra-point that was good landed the game in the winning column for the Eagles, with at 30-12 victory.

The Como-Pickton Eagles will travel to Hawkins on Friday night, to begin their district season.
