It Was "Role Reversal" At Como-Pickton's
Annual Powder Puff Football Game,
Tuesday Night

by: Bobby McDonald

The girls playing football and the boys cheering them on, on the sidelines, was the "norm" at Como-Pickton, as the Annual Powder Puff Football Game at Como-Pickton High School unfolded, Tuesday night, before a crowd of parents, teachers, and classmates. This was one of the activities that has been planned during Homecoming Week at Como-Pickton School.

The Senior-Sophomore Powder Puff Football Team.

The Junior-Freshman Powder Puff Football Team.

It was the the Senior-Sophomore Team that managed to win the match-up, as they beat the Junior-Freshman Team, 14-0, in the flag football contest. Saxe Daugherty, a sophomore, and Kaycee Thomas, a senior, made the winning touchdowns for the Senior-Sophomore Teams. The teams were coached by members of the Como-Pickton Eagle Varsity Squad and Como-Pickton Eagle Coaches served as the referees for the contest. And, of course, there was a number of incidents when players used "their power to beg," in attempting to make yardage, during the match-up!

Powder Puff Coaches included: Austin Darby, Spencer Boyd, Phillip
Cox, and Ryan Carpenter.

Senior Katie Moss shows the "determined look" that made her such
a strong force in declaring victory for the Senior-Sophomores!

Saxe Daugherty throws a pass to a fellow Senior-Sophomore team member, as some good yardage
is obtained in the Tuesday night match-up!

One of the highlights of the game was the introduction of the "Homecoming Court," male members of the high school classes had been voted to the position, to represent their classes. "Chaste Chase Beck" was the senior class representative, "Lovely Lance Tate" was the junior representative, the sophomore class representative didn't even show-up for the contest (we're still wondering how lovely he might have been), and the freshman class was represented by "Darling Daniel Fisher." The "Homecoming Court" paraded around the field, once they were introduced, and a "roar" was heard throughout the crowd, as "Lovely Lance" was announced the queen, after collecting more donations than his other counterparts! Congratulations? to Lovely Lance!!!!

"Lovely Lance" shows a little bit of attitude, after
being crowned the Powder Puff Queen!!!

When they tried to get Austin Darby to give "Lovely Lance" a congratulatory kiss, his
comment was, "My Mama didn't raise no fool!"

The game ended with a friendly exchange by both Powder Puff Teams, and the Junior-Freshman already talking about winning the competition next year.

Hey girls, it was suppose to be flag football, and not a "contact" sport!!!

Tuesday night's "lovely" cheerleaders included: Ivan Romero, Travis Taylor, Jimmy Lara, Ole Gutierez, and D.J. Gomez.

Como-Pickton Homecoming week continues through Friday night, when the real Homecoming Queen will be announced and the Como-Pickton Eagles host the Alba-Golden Panthers. A Homecoming Dance will be held, following the match-up!

"That was the hairiest legged cheerleaders I've ever seen," was the
comment by one innocent by-stander, at Tuesday night's game!!!

And, most agreed that they hoped it was at least another year before they saw such a sight in Como-Pickton, again!!!
