Como-Pickton Names Valedictorian and
Salutatorian of Class of 2012

Valedictorian CHELSEA LESSING

Chelsea is the daughter of Charles Elizondo of San Antonio and Lori Whiteman of Como. Chelsea participated in many activities, including, FCCLA, Spanish Club, Book Buddies, Teen Court, National Honor Society, National Junior Honor Society, UIL One Act Play, UIL Journalism, yearbook, and choir.

She received the Mary Bonham Foundation Scholarship worth approximately $32,000. The scholarship

covers housing, books, tuition and fees for the student’s college career. She also received the Highest Ranking High School Graduate Scholarship, the Top Ten Percent Scholarship, and various other scholarships from the University.

Chelsea will attend the University of Texas at Austin and major in both Archaeology and Environmental Science. She plans on pursuing an internship with Greenpeace and going into the Peace Corps after she graduates to volunteer in Cambodia.

Her favorite part about attending Como-Pickton since the third grade is how many amazing teachers and advisors she has met.

 

 

 

Salutatorian MEGAN MCCOY

Megan is the daughter of Joe and LeAnda McCoy of Como and sister of Joey McCoy. She has attended Como-Pickton CISD since Kindergarten and has been involved in many activities in academic and extracurricular.

Megan is a member of the National Honor Society and has played varsity volleyball, basketball, softball, and track.

Outside of school she is involved with her church by helping with AWANAS. Megan received the Athletic Booster Club Scholarship, the Northeast Texas Community College Counselor/Principal Scholarship, and the Como-Pickton Alumni Scholarship.

Megan plans to attend Northeast Texas Community College to finish her basics and then enter Pre-Optometry Program at Texas A&M Commerce. After she has completed that program, she plans to attend the University of Houston College of Optometry to get her degree to become an Optometrist.
