Como-Pickton Junior, Juan Amaro, receives the House District #3 Student
of the Month award.

Como-Pickton Youth Named
Student of the Month
For House District #3

Juan Amaro, the son of Juan Amaro, Sr. and a Junior at Como-Pickton High School, has been chosen by State Representative Erwin Cain as a February 2012 Student of the Month for House District 3. Amaro was described by his nominating teacher, Bobby Mays, as "a trustworthy and valuable friend." In making the presentation, Cain said, "I have on good authority that Juan is extraordinary. He does excellent work all the time across all academic disciplines, and does so in a quiet and assured manner. He has a reputation for being kind, bright, and funny. That kind of performance and character will take him far in life, and I look forward to hearing of his achievements in the future." Amaro was nominated early this year along with a number of other students from across House District 3 in an effort coordinated by Rep. Cain to recognize excellence in youth.

Cain on Wednesday personally presented the Junior with a resolution from the State of Texas praising him for his consistently excellent academic performance. Rep. Cain solicits voluntary nominations from school systems throughout House District 3. All those nominated are worthy of recognition, according to Rep. Cain, and in the evaluation process one or two students district-wide "float" to the top of the stack and are chosen for this honor. The honor of Student of the Month highlights qualities such as leadership, citizenship, kindness, service to others, and/or special school or public achievement when combined with good academic standing and a record of good behavior. All teachers, counselors, and administrators within Delta, Franklin, Hopkins, Lamar, Red River, and Titus Counties were invited and encouraged to nominate students for this honor.
