Cumby ISD Proposes a Bond Election
For Campus Improvement

Cumby ISD voters may have the opportunity to vote on two proposals in a bond election, for campus improvements, in the upcoming months. "We're still in the planning stages!" reported Cumby ISD Superintendent, Lance Campbell, at a Tuesday night meeting in the Cumby Vocational Agriculture Building. "We're seeking information from you the parents and taxpayers, so that we can meet the needs of the students and make the best possible decisions. We definitely want your input and suggestions on how we meet the needs of the district."

Campbell outlined needs in the district and explained a first proposition that would allow the district to use special federal funds  (QSCB - Qualified School Constructin Bonds) at 0% - 1% interest, that are reserved for construction, and possibly save the district over $2.0 million in interest. The funds could be used for an elementary roof, additional elementary classrooms, high school classrooms, and agriculture barn and a bus barn, and the beginnings of a music program at the school. "These are some of our needs in the system now, and we're looking at meeting those needs, after being notified that we qualified for this low interest money," explained Campbell. "But, we want to make certain that these are the needs that you the parents and voters feel the district needs to pursue."

Cumby ISD parents, students, and voters listened intently, on Tuesday night, as a proposed
bond election for campus improvements was discussed.

A second proposition to the bond issue would entail moving approximately $1,125,000.00 of current indebtedness from Maintenance Obligation Bonds to Construction Bonds (I and S Bonds). "This move would allow us to retire the debt, as construction obligations, which the funds were used for, and receive state help in doing it," advised Campbell. "This would help us meet our obligations in a more efficient way, and receive state monies to help retire the debt on the gym construction."

Following Campbell's presentation to the large crowd of parents, at Tuesday night's meeting, a question and answer session was hosted, with a number of parents and voters asking questions about various features of the proposed bond election.

"Let me just say that we will be hosting several other meetings and are actively seeking input from everyone, on this plan!" explained Campbell. "We want the discussion, because the more discussion we have, the greater the potential is for us to get the needs of the students met, and that we can use the funds to make the improvements that we need here in our system!"

"We  want everyone's input in this process," explained Cumby ISD
Superintendent, Lance Campbell, as he presented a powerpoint presentation
on a proposed bond election for the district.
