Parade and Bonfire,
Wednesday Night

The football team was there; the cheerleaders were there; and almost every school child and a host of alumni of Cumby High School. It's Homecoming Week in Cumby, this week, and everyone is celebrating with the annual parade and bonfire. Cumby High School is probably the only school in Hopkins County that continues to host a traditional bonfire, but it's a tradition that continues in the small northwestern Hopkins County community.

"It's just a tradition that everyone seems to enjoy," expressed one Wednesday night parade watcher. "The Cumby Volunteer Fire Department is willing to have their units present and to have the personnel available to make sure that the tradition continues!"

Students at Cumby High School began their annual homecoming parade with cheerleaders riding on a fire truck; then, they were followed by the football team, homecoming court, and junior high cheerleaders and football teams. "It's one of the nights that everyone can ride in a parade and enjoy the community spirit," expressed one of the local teachers at Cumby High School. "It's an opportunity for everyone to ride and wave to their family and neighbors!"

Last week the student body at Cumby High School elected their homecoming king and queen nominees, two couples from the freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior class. The high school student body will conduct an election on Friday morning to select their homecoming king and queen. The results will be revealed at the football game on Friday night, when the Cumby Trojans host Celeste at Trojan Field.

Wednesday night's parade ended at the field adjacent to the football field, where male students had hauled wooden pallets, scrap lumber, and even a few limbs that littered yards, after storms moved through the area on Monday.

Suddenly, the pile of brush, was ignited, as cheerleaders led the large crowd in cheers. The spirit in the community of Cumby had been "ignited" as the bonfire burned and students enjoyed their tradition for one more year.

Homecoming Week activities continue with the 7:00 coronation, Friday night, and the annual Homecoming Dance that will be hosted in the school cafetorium, following Friday night's football game!

Best of Luck, Trojans,
on a Great Homecoming!!!
