Celeste In Homecoming

Cumby Trojans fans packed the stadium in Cumby Friday night and witnessed their home team capture a 50-20 homecoming victory from Celeste, as homecoming week activities came to a close.
Cumby dominated the first quarter of play with a 6-0 lead a the end of the period, scoring when Jake Vann entered the end zone on a one yard run with 58 seconds left on the clock. Quarterback Brixx Hawthorne's two-point attempt was no good.
During the second period, Hawthorne connected with senior running back, Nathan Dunnihoo, for a 21 yard touchdown run, with 11:54 on clock. The Trojans led 12-0 after a failed conversion.

Celeste quickly recovered and scored on a 51 yard pass with 10:59 left to play in the half. The score was 12-6.

The Trojans found "pay dirt" when Hawthorne found senior receiver Kris Stanford open and on a nine yard pass, he made it to the goal, but the two-point conversion was again no good. The Trojans led 18-6.
In "the play of the game," Celeste had managed another six point score, and was attempting a two-point conversion, when Trojan Sophomore Rodney Hobbs intercepted the ball and ran for 108 yards and two points for the Trojans. The score was 20-12.

With the momentum building, the Trojans completed a series of plays, ending the half with a 16 yard run into the end zone, by B.T. Brown. The Trojans led the match-up at halftime 26-12.
The third quarter found the Trojans returning with fourteen more points to their credit during the period. Hawthorne connected with Dunnihoo for a 30 yard T.D. pass with 7:40 to go in the period. Then, Jake Vann ran 17 yards for a T.D, and converted on the two-point conversion, to give Cumby a 40-12 advantage.
In the final seconds of the third quarter, Celeste managed a 54 yard T.D. pass and a two-point conversion to end the period with a 40-20 score.
The fourth quarter of play was dominated by the Trojans, as they saw 14 more points added to their score, when Brix Hawthorne ran for 64 yards to complete a Touchdown. Then, with 2:14 left in the game. B.T. Brown ran 35 yards for another Trojan touchdown. Kris Stanford caught the two-point conversion and the game ended with a 54-20 finish for the Trojans' homecoming victory.

The Trojans completed the game with 220 yards of rushing and 262 yards of passing and managed to capitalize on four turnovers by Celeste. The Trojans are 2-0 in district and will travel to Fruitvale on Friday, October 26th, where they hope to increase their district standings.
