Cumby Graduation Marks
Years of Dedication

It was a milestone in the lives of twenty-five high school seniors at Cumby High School, on Friday night, as they walked across the stage and accepted their diplomas, signifying the culmination of thirteen years of work. "It all began when some of us started kindergarten together, thirteen years ago," expressed a senior girl, with a touch of nostalgia. "We've gone to school together most of our lives!"

Friday night's ceremonies included a welcome by Cumby High School Principal, Don Madden, and remarks by Cumby Superintendent, Gerald Gilbert. A host of family, friends, teachers, and supporters witnessed the seniors as they made the final walk of their high school career.

Topping the 2008 Class at Cumby High School was Valedictorian, Ashley Heer, daughter of Jesse and Carol Heer. Ashley has been active in athletics, Beta Club, and cheerleading during her four years of high school. She plans to attend the University of Texas, in Austin, and pursue a career in Sports Medicine.

Salutatorian of the class was Michael Cross, the son of Mike Cross and the late Cindy Cross, of Cumby. Michael has been a participant in all athletics programs, Beta Club, and was selected to the All-State Academic Football Team, his senior year.

 

"Ashley and Michael are tops!" expressed Cumby High School Counselor, Judy Jones. "They are well respected students among all their teachers and peers, for their dedication and work ethic, and both will excell in their lifetime goals!"

The Class of 2008 at Cumby High School included: Ashley Heer, Michael Cross, Amanda Barrow, April Chapin, Brian Clem, Andy Cline, Jenna Deeds, Nathan Dunnihoo, Fabiola Garcia, Jennifer Herron, Rachel Perkins, Morgan Lott, Cooper Manning, Mike Morris, Lucia Pharr, Jessica Quintero Kelly, Kristopher Stanford, Zachary Steward, Scarlett Tarno, Katy Tremor, Jake Vann, Jonathan Weatherbee, Petter Hassel, Chirst Stubblefield, and Nick Newsom.
