Folks in the Sport of Powerlifting
Know Where Cumby, Texas, Is...

Coach Gary Parish and Senior members of his Powerlifting Team.
After winning the State Title in the spring of 2012 and many members of the team wearing State Rings, folks all across the state, in the sport of powerlifting, know where Cumby, Texas is. And, this year's 2012-13 Cumby High School Powerlifting Team is intent on keeping that "alive" and have set their goals even higher, this season.
"It takes pure gut, sacrifice, concentration, and dedication to be on the Powerlifting Team," expressed Cumby Powerlifting Coach and Athletic Director, Gary Parish. "These kids get up at 4:30 or 5:00 in the morning to make it to the weight room by 6:00 each morning and begin a routine of 'besting' their records to excel in the sport!"
"But with the 2012 Girl's State Title under our belt and very, very promising group of young men on my Boy's Team, this year, this group of lifters are poised to really shine this season!" continued Parish. "I'm excited about where they are in their training and the experience that we're bringing back from last year!"
Parish has seven boys and twelve girls on his 2012-13 Team and six of them are seniors. He has five returning lettermen and four young women off the 2012 State Champion Powerlifting Team.

While most students will be enjoying a long Christmas break, Parish's Powerlifters will be "hitting the gym" each morning, to improve and get ready for their first meet that is scheduled for January 12th.
"I'm already ahead of my best lifts from last year," expressed Senior and returning state competitor, Brandon Jones. "I'm looking forward to this year's competition!"
"I've lost twenty pound and while everyone else is enjoying a number of extra calories at Christmas, I'll be 'sticking to my diet' to lose some more," advised Senior Breanna Gay. "I want to lose enough weight to go down a class for competition and that goal is in my sights!"
"We're working hard to defend our 2012 State Championship," inserted returning senior, Kayla Akers. "Once you get the 'taste' of a state win, it just makes you work that much harder to make it happen again!"

Meanwhile, serveral of the underclassmen on Parish's 2012-13 Team are also working hard and offering even more depth to the team this year. "Everyone, including some of those that didn't make it out of Regionals last year, and some new lifters that have been inspired by our success last year, are working hard to bring more 'hardware' back to Cumby," expressed Parish. "I couldn't be happier with the progress of my team and now it is just to keep everyone healthy and ready to compete as we begin our season of competition."
