In a Friday morning announcement, the Cumby I.S.D. Board of Education hired an interim superintendent, Thursday night, at a special session of the board. Receiving the "nod" for the post was Mr. Gerald Gilbert, a veteran educator with the Grand Saline I.S.D.

Gilbert has over 43 years experience in education, serving as a classroom teacher, principal, and superintendent, with the Grand Saline I.S.D.

It has been "business as usual" at Cumby School, with students registering and beginning classes
for the 2007-08 school year.

According to the announcement, Gilbert will begin his duties, on Tuesday, September 4th, at the helm of the Cumby I.S.D. He was hired for a six month contract for the position.

The Cumby I.S.D. has been seeking someone to fill the position since mid-August, when they place Superintendent Bert Vandiver, on administrative leave.

The Cumby Trojans will host the Alba-Golden Panthers in their first game of the season, Friday night,
in Cumby.
