1-A Volleyball Race "Thickens"
As Cumby Falls to Fruitvale, Tuesday

The Class 1-A Volleyball District race "thickened" on Tuesday night, as the Cumby Lady Trojans brought their 5-0 first-round record to Fruitvale, for the second round of the season. The Lady Trojans had beat Fruitvale early in the season, their toughest opponent in the district, and the tension was building for a showdown. The Lady Trojans came out and won the first two sets handily 25-16 and 25-17. However, in the third set, they were narrowly beaten 23-25, by Fruitvale, forcing a five-set match-up.  The Lady Trojans couldn't get the momentum back and lost the fourth set, 19-25, and then couldn't "pull it together" in the final set, losing 9-15.

This leaves both Cumby and Fruitvale, likely the two top teams in the district, tied with 5-1 records. The two teams will continue the second round, with every game crucial to their record and will more than likely force a showdown to determine the District winner!
