Hopkins County Dairy Festival Board
Announces Plans for 54th Annual Event
From Dairy Festival Board
The Hopkins County Dairy Festival has begun preparations for the 2013 Festival. The dates are June 7 – June 16. Our new Board President, David Watson, will host the opening ceremony on Friday, June 7th at 9:30 am at Guaranty Bond Bank.
This follows the first flight of the Hot Air Balloons from Shannon Oaks Church grounds, from 6:00 am – 9:00 am on Friday, June 7. Dr. David Black, and his wife, Pam, are the chairmen for all of the Hot Air Balloon activities this first weekend. The balloons will be flying Friday, June 7 and Saturday, June 8 at dawn and dusk, from the grounds of Shannon Oaks Church (weather permitting). Last year we had 28 balloons participating, and hope to increase that number for this year! Come be part of the fun and see those gorgeous balloons! All Balloon activities are free and open to the public. Please see our website for all Dairy Festival information:
www.hopkinscountydairyfestival.com.
Also, start your creative juices flowing as to what your float for the Parade will look like to portray our theme this year: “Pirates of the Cow – iibean”. The Parade leaves Buford Park on Saturday, June 8 at 10:00 am. Any organization, commercial enterprise, or community group is welcome to enter a decorated float. For Parade information and registration contact David Watson at the website: www.hopkinscountydairyfestival.com .
The candidates for Dairy Festival Queen each year and the “Little Kids” always create imaginative floats, highlighting the Festival’s theme. Any young lady who is a Junior in a Hopkins County school may apply for consideration to be in this year’s Festival. If interested, please contact Cindy Lancaster at 903-438-1620 or Gena Prickette at 903-243-4534 to receive the application packet. Only 12 spots are available for contestants. The coronation pageant is on Saturday, June 15 at 7:00 pm at the Civic Center Auditorium.

If you want your “Little Kid” (boys and girls, ages 3 – 5) to be a part of the Parade and Pageant, please contact Missy Caddell at 903-438-6381.
The Parents’ and Candidates’ Reception will be at the Southwest Dairy Museum in March. This will be an opportunity for participants and parents to learn about all the activities and responsibilities of being a candidate for the title of Dairy Festival Queen 2013 and to ask any questions of the Board of Directors.
The Hopkins County Dairy Festival is a tradition of 54 years and includes Hot Air Balloons, a huge Parade, a milking contest, a dairy foods contest, a 5K milk run, the NETLA Jr. Dairy Show, a carnival; and, the Coronation Pageant. We also have the TX Championship Ice Cream Freeze Off on Saturday, June 8, at 4:00 pm, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. Mark your calendars now, as these are all much- looked- forward- to and not- to- be- missed annual County events!
