2009 Dairy Foods Contest
Brings out the Very Best

The verdict is in – Hopkins County has some good cooks! The 2009 Dairy Foods Contest, part of the Hopkins County Dairy Festival, drew a group of enthusiastic cooks who left spectators with full tummies and sporting a smile.
The contest promotes the use of dairy products in recipes and requires that entries have at least two real dairy products. The results were amazing. The following individuals participated in the contest.
Children’s Division
Brenton Burnside – Apple-of-Your-Eye Cheesecake – 2nd place
Braden Lennon – Mini Cheese Cakes – 3rd place
Braden Lennon – Corn Dip – 2nd place

Youth Division
Adult Division
Audrey Greenway – Cherry Breeze Cream Cheese Pie – 2nd place
Carrie Lennon Cherney – Easy Coconut Cake – 3rd place
Audrey Greenway – Lasagna – 2nd place
Following the awards ceremony, a tasting bee of all the dishes was provided for spectators and media. Each participant, spectator, and media representative received a copy of the recipe booklet, prepared by the Extension Service office manager, Barbara Sanders.

Enola’s Winning Buttermilk Pie
Mix together: 2 cups sugar
3 tablespoons flour
Pinch salt
Beat together: 6 eggs
1 cup cooled melted butter
Add: 1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Mix everything together and pour into a prepared pie crust. Bake 1 hour at 350°F.
