All of us "shudder" at the mention of the word CANCER, but it's even more devastating when it is a young child that must endure the pain, discomfort, and treatments of the disease. We can only imagine the heartbreak to an active 2 year old, when told that he's sick and must undergo the rigors of doctor and hospital visits, painful treatments, and all the things that accompany being diagnosed.

Well, that's just what Juan and Tammy Ayala of Yantis, Texas, are facing, when their young son, two year old, Dominic, was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, on January 18th, 2013. "I'm heartbroken myself, but don't really know what to share with him," expressed Tammy Ayala. "He knows that he is very sick, but you want to shield him from the trauma and must hide your own tears and worry, to keep things going for his treatments!"

Well, that's where the Yantis Owl Basketball Team, friends, and neighbors have become involved. They've decided to help with the financial burden that is suddenly mounting, for the Ayala family. Just the gasoline expenses alone, are enormous, as the family makes trips back and forth to the hospital and for the needed care.

On Tuesday night, the Yantis Owls will face their friendly rivals, the Miller Grove Hornets, in a district match-up, hosted in Yantis. "Hoops for Dominic" will be featured at the game and t-shirts will be sold, a variety of halftime games, and donations will be accepted to help defray the medical costs for Dominic and his family.

Dominic's two older brothers, Mark Carrasco and Michael Carrasco, are starters for the Yantis Owls and them and fellow teammates, along with the entire team from Miller Grove, have promised an outstanding game for Tuesday night, to play for Dominic.
