Texas AgriLife Extension Service
Hosts Annual Meeting & Dinner, Thursday Night
by: Bobby McDonald
SSISD Superintendent Michael Lamb was the guest speaker at Thursday night's meeting.
Thursday night the Texas AgriLife Extension Service hosted their Annual Meeting and highlighted the many program areas that they participate in our community. Extension agents, Dr. Mario Villarino and Johanna Hicks, divided the programs into four major groups, Ag and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H and Youth, and Community Development.
Sulphur Springs ISD Superintendent, Mike Lamb, served as the guest speaker as he related his own experiences of growing up as a 4-H member and the lessons he learned, first in a small rural school in Western Oklahoma, and then as he moved to Northeast Texas, played football for TAMU-C, and then began an education career. Lamb joked that he would be brief with his remarks as on of his former students, Miranda Lambert, was nominated for a number of awards by the CMA, and he had to get home to see if all of his "educating" had worked. Well, undoubtedly, he's a great educator, as Lambert was named Female Vocalist of the Year by the CMA! Way to go Mike!!!!

Named the Extension Supporter of the Year was Front Porch News Texas owned by Bobby McDonald, for their extensive coverage of the many, many programs of the Extension Service throughout the year. Thank you, Extension Service, and like Mike, I'm a product of the 4-H program!
The annual meeting concluded with the awarding of a number of door prizes.
