Fans For the Elderly

by: Bobby McDonald

It's been collecting fans at the Car Mart location on Broadway Street. Each year, Car Mart selects a charity project to improve the community and this year, according to local general manager, Clarence Walton, the local establishment chose to collect fans for the elderly. "We know that with hot weather being a major factor in Northeast Texas and Hopkins County, during the summer months, that there are elderly people, on fixed incomes, that need extra help in keeping cool," expressed Walton. "Thus, we decided that our project for the year would be collecting fans to aid them and that we would donate them to the local Senior Citizens Center, for distribution."

This week, Car Mart presented Karon Weatherman and Wayne Gross of the Senior Citizens Center with a number of fans that will be distributed to the elderly in our community. "This is a god-send," expressed Weatherman. "There are folks out her that need help in keeping cool and these fans will be deeply appreciated, as they attempt to 'beat the heat,' during the summer months!"

If you have a fan that you would like to donate, drop the fan by Car Mart, at the corner of South Broadway Street and I-30 and they will make certain that it is given to the local Senior Citizens for distribution.

"It's just a small way that we can aid those in need, in our local community," expressed Walton. "We're more than happy to collect them, to keep our senior citizens cool for the summer!"
