Saturday One-Vehicle Accident
Proves Fatal For Local Man
by: Bobby McDonald
For those who were attending Saturday's Hot August Night Event, the story circulated through the crowd of an accident on Hwy-19 North, as two of the volunteer fire departments and emergency medical personnel were called from the event, to respond to the accident. Rescuers were called to the scene at approximately 4:00, with reports of a "roll-over" truck at the Hwy-19 N location.
Upon arrival, responders found an overturned Dodge 1500 pick-up truck and the driver having been ejected from the vehicle, and approximately 30 feet away, from the site. Witnesses reported Michael Jeffrie Brown, age 29, of Sulphur Springs, had left the roadway on a curve, potentially over-corrected and flipped the vehicle, with it rolling as many as 4 times, before landing in the ditch. Brown suffered numerous injuries and was immediately given care by Hopkins County EMS, while a medical helicopter was called to transport the victim from the scene.
Following trouble locating a potential site in the area for the helicopter to land, Brown was transported to Hopkins County Memorial Hosptial to meet the helicopter.
Brown's injuries proved fatal, when he passed away on Sunday, in a Tyler hospital, from multiple injuries, sustained in the Saturday accident.
