70th Annual Awards Banquet,
Thursday Night

For what has been a community tradition of leadership training, project development, and character building, friends and supporters gathered on Thursday night, in the Sulphur Springs High School Cafeteria, and enjoyed the 70th Annual Sulphur Springs FFA Banquet. The event is a tradition of honoring outstanding students, recognizing community supporters, and highlighting the achievements of the year for the chapter. The Sulphur Springs FFA Chapter holds the number 2 charter in the state of Texas and is one of the very oldest FFA chapters in the state.
Serving as toastmistress for the evening was Sulphur Springs FFA Chapter President, Danielle Campbell, who introduced fellow officers and presented a number of awards. The opening ceremonies were conducted by the Chapter Officers and features a meaningful presentation of the ideals of the youth organization.
The invocation was lead by Chapter Secretary, Chea Townsend and Kristy Harder and members of the Greenhand Chapter conducted the Presentation of the Flags. The Welcome was offered by Chapter Reporter, Jimmy Helfferich.

Morgan Lampp, Student Advisor for the Sulphur Springs FFA, introduced the guests at the annual banquet and Somer Gregory presented the Cecil Tucker Memorial Scholarship to Jimmy Helfferich, for his outstanding participation in his four years of FFA work.
Bobby McDonald presented two $1000.00 scholarships, in honor of Sterling and Eva Beckham, to John Holland and Danielle Campbell, that will be given during the first and second semesters of their college careers.
Chesley McGlamery and Jimmy Helfferich gave the Greenhand and Chapter FFA Degrees to students who had completed the accomplishments for each degree.

In a most prestigious award for first year members of the FFA Chapter, Jake Stevens, Chapter Parliamentarian, presented Dylan Dannheim with the Outstanding Greenhand Award, in memory of Ken Pogue and Randy Schaefer, two young men who were killed in a tragic accident during their FFA activities. The award is presented to the first year student who excells in both the project area and leadership activities.
Dylan Dannheim was awarded the Outstanding Greenhand Award.
Morgan Lamp announced that the Oustanding Agriculture Cooperative Program Student for 2008 was Colby Temples, a senior member of the chapter.
Colby Temples was awarded the Outstanding Ag-Coop Student Award.
Danielle Campbell presented the Outstanding Officer of the Year Award to Chea Townsend, who was selected by her fellow officers for her positive attitude and contributions to the officer team for the year.
Chea Townsend is presented the Officer of the Year Award, on Thursday night.
Honorary Membership in the Sulphur Springs FFA was presented to three community individuals for their support and dedication to the Sulphur Springs FFA Chapter. Presented honorary degrees were Kathy Froneberger, Harold Smithson, and Gail Boles.

Thursday night's 70th Annual Banquet ended with a slide presentation of the many, many accomplishment that the Sulphur Springs FFA Chapter has made during the 2007-08 school year. A humorous presentation was given by Koyt Koon of "Safety in the Shop," that brought laughter from the crowd. Then, the 2007-08 FFA Officers presented their parents with appreciation for their support.

The 70th Annual Banquet closed with the traditional Closing Ceremonies, by the Chapter Officers. The meal was catered by Big Smith BBQ.
Chapter Reporter, Jimmy Helfferich, a senior, conducts his last ceremony as an FFA officer.
And, these FFA supporters had time to visit following Thursday night's FFA Banquet.
