"Strike Up the Band.........

And Let the Fireworks Begin!!!

It was a "warm" night in downtown Sulphur Springs, on Saturday night, as Hopkins County gathered to celebrate the annual Independence Day Concert and Fireworks Show, but enthusiasm was high and by the time that the sun began to set in the west, the downtown square was full. "You've got the 'hottest" commodity in town!" declared one resident, as he purchased a cold bottle of water, at the Leadership Sulphur Springs refreshment booth.

Folks used a variety of measures to "beat the heat" but enjoyed an outstanding performance by the symphony orchestra and the beautiful fireworks show that followed.

Local resident, Peggy Walker, surprised her friends and classmates, as she took to the stage and served as the guest director for the orchestra, an honor she had purchased in the annual auction, earlier in the year. "I'm so nervous!" proclaimed Peggy, before entering the stage. But she did fine as she got into the rhythm of the music and exercised her talents!

Many closest to the stage had to scramble to get a better view of the fireworks display, as the fireworks didn't seem to lift as high as usual and part of the view was blocked by the Alliance Bank backdrop of the festivities. However, a wonderful view was observed from the spire of the First United Methodist Church.

If the taillights of the cars were any indication of the enjoyment of the night's festivities, it was certainly a success, as some one hour later, folks were still making attempts to exit the downtown area of Sulphur Springs.

Enjoy the following photos of Saturday night's concert and fireworks display and pause to reflect that we have soldiers in "harms way" protecting the freedoms we enjoy on this festive occasion!
