Event, Saturday Night
by: Bobby McDonald
Following Saturday night's Veterans' Memorial Dedication Service, the Northeast Texas Symphony and the Northeast Texas Choral Society, took the stage and began a beautiful selection of patriotic favorites. Underwriting sponsors for the event were: Alliance Bank, Grocery Supply Company, and Peoples Communications, Inc. Dwight Corley, President of the Northeast Texas Symphony League served as the Master of Ceremonies, and brief welcoming remarks were brought by Tom Sellers of Alliance Bank. Sulphur Springs Mayor Craig Johnson led the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.
Tom Sellers, President of Alliance Bank, brought welcoming greetings to those
attending the concert and fireworks show.
The music program began with The Star Spangled Banner. Other favorites, such as: God Bless America, Amazing Grace, America the Beautiful, and Battle Hymn of the Republic, were included in the show. A highlight of the music was the Armed Forces Salute, that featured the songs of each branch of the armed forces, when veterans of those branches were asked to stand for recognition. Saturday night's music ended with Stars and Stripes Forever.
And, the grand fireworks began blasting to the northeast of the downtown square, just as darkness fell, for a spectacular and beautiful show!
