Engraving of Names on Veterans' Memorial
Completed For First Round

Manuel Vega, of Sulphur Springs, was among those searching the 3000 plus names on the Veterans' Memorial,
Tuesday afternoon, as he found his own name engraved on the wall.

It was a beautiful evening in Sulphur Springs, on Tuesday, as a large number of people gathered on the downtown square and searched the completed engraving of names on the Veterans' Memorial Wall. With cloudy skies, a cool wind blowing, and searchers surrounding the memorial, one would holler from a distance, when they found a loved one's name on the wall, among the over 3000 names engraved randomly, in the first engraving. "I found my uncle!" could be heard from three stones away.

"Here's my grandfather!" exclaimed another.

"Here I am!" reported Manuel Vega, as he located his own name on the memorial.

"This is just great!" exclaimed another viewer. "I'm taking pictures to e-mail all my cousins, who live in distant places, of their father's names on the wall!"

"I didn't know he served in WWII," spoke another individual, as she read a name!

The Tuesday evening gathering was just a prelude of the many, many visitors that will be viewing the downtown tribute to our soldiers and servicemen.
