Flea Market On The Square
Great Success For DBA
by: Bobby McDonald
It was shopping for anyone who wanted to buy something, on the downtown square, Saturday, as the first ever Flea Market on the Square unfolded. Sponsored by the Downtown Business Alliance, Saturday's event attracted over 100 vendors that offered items that ranged from antiques, to crafts, to books, to fresh produce. Booths were rented all around the downtown square and produced a "carnival" type atmosphere, as shoppers came to look and purchase items offered for sale.
"It was a wonderful showing for the first time event," expressed Becky Flippin, one of the organizers of the event. "We feel it was a great success and got people to come to downtown Sulphur Springs and visit the booths, as well as the businesses that are located in the downtown area."

"Wouldn't it be wonderful if this became a regular monthly event," expressed Billie Ruth Standbridge, another organizer. "Who knows maybe another Canton Trades Days is being born?"
"The square in Sulphur Springs once was a very active place every Saturday, when everyone came to town to transact their business and it certainly is nice to see people this active on the square again," expressed one interested shopper. "There is a little bit of everything offered for sale here today!"

Saturday's event concluded at 2:00 p.m. and the weather cooperated wonderfully. It was a beautiful day and a nice breeze made for a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere. Vendors began packing their wares and headed for home, with money for their time and effort, on Saturday.
